Born in Lovell, Wyoming.  Attended University of Wyoming and BrighamYoungUniversity receiving a degree in Accounting in 1976.  Received his CLU designation in 1978.  Received his ChFC designation in 1981.

 

Contracted with The Equitable of New York in January of 1972 working with his father Jack Stevens.  Appointed District Manager for The Equitable in Rock Springs, Wyoming January of 1979, a position that he held for one year receiving the National Citation Award for management.  Mike entered Equitable’s Hall of Fame in 1988.  Mike was elected to the Equitable national Agents Forum in 1985 and served as its Chairman in 1989 representing 11,000 Equitable Agents nationally presenting their ideas and views directly to Senior Management during Equitable’s reorganization.

 

Mike has served as president of the Wyoming State Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) in 1985 and president of the Utah State NAIFA in 1998-99.  (Mike moved to Ogden, UT in 1993)  He served as president of the Sweetwater Association of Life Underwriters 1974 and 1975.  Mike was named Wyoming’s Agent of the Year in 1988.  He is a Life member of the Million-Dollar Round Table. (2000) Mike is a frequent recipient of the National Quality Award and the National Sales Achievement Award.

 

He has served the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) on the Nominations Committee in 1986 and 2002 – 2002, the Convention Committee in 1984 – 85 and 2001, the Credentials Committee in 1981 and 1987, and as Chairman of the Recognition, Quality and Awards Committee of NALU for two years – 1988 through 1990.  Mike was the Wyoming State National Committeeman from 1985 to 1994.  He has taught LUTC courses for 5 years.

 

Mike is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  He is a member of the Salt Lake Mormon Tabernacle Choir.  He was the radio sportscaster for the Rock springs High School Football and Basketball programs (Voice of the Rock Springs Tigers) from 1982 to 1994.  Mike moved to Ogden, Utah in 1993.  He married Carolyn Meyers of Glendora, California in 1977.  They have four children, Ariane, John Jr., Chelsea, and Jeffrey.
